White River Fishery Area Spring Ponds

The South Fork of the White River is one of Wisconsin's premier trout streams. The South Fork originates from spring ponds on the White River Fishery Area in Bayfield County. Several of those springs are contained within a "wide area" in the stream called "Lake Two."

In June, 2007 I snorkeled a portion of Lake Two simply to see something different from the inland lakes that I typically snorkel. I was pleasantly surprised to find a spring pool where the bottom was "boiling" with extremely cold water emerging from the earth. The video below is a brief snippet of this spring pool.

I only saw three brown trout in the pool.
